5/24/2011 4:00:00 PM - Forms Outage and System Maintenance
On Saturday night (5/21/2011) our team began normal, weekly maintenance on our systems that unfortunately caused intermittent outages for forms generation through Monday morning (5/23/2011). When the forms outage was fixed users continued to experience problems with using our customer management websites, limiting their ability to update their accounts (or create new ones). The website operations were fixed as of 3:30 PM PST on Tuesday May 24, 2011.
The outage was caused by a maintenance program failing coupled with a human mistake that caused an important server group to stop responding to requests from user’s. While the error did NOT result in any data loss or affect any information within our systems, we chose to turn off a key component in our websites to keep users from performing actions that might cause more harm to their accounts. The result was an error message that appeared when attempting to update accounts. Now that we have resolved the mistake we have resumed website operations normally.
We acknowledge that our error message could be more informative and easier to understand and we will strive to deploy better messaging in the future. In addition, we have taken further measures to eliminate this mistake from occurring again. If you are an enterprise customer with a service level agreement we will also be providing a new phone extension that will call a key team member during non-business hours.
Please be aware that we monitor and maintain our systems vigorously. By the time our customers experience an outage we’re usually well into resolving the issue and will always respond to inquiries and customers affected once services have been resumed or remedied for the affected parties.
